September 2020 - Give yourself the grace - by Riikka Kovasin

Moikka! It’s Riikka here today with my take on the September theme. I was thinking more of an autumn project first, but the olive green color steered my thoughts to summer months instead of autumn, which I consider more yellow, red and orange. As I didn’t want to do a summer project in the doorstep of autumn, instead of concentrating to one season, I added some elements of every season in my page.

I started the page with a crackle paint layer. There’s olive green paint underneath a crackled layer of white – this represents winter. Like new plants and life is waiting underneath the snow and ice. The spring is the sprouts shooting up towards the sky in the background, done using metallic olive green paint. Summer is the patterned blue paper with delicate flowers on it. The golden embossed leaves on vellum and the brown, rusty Mechanical leaves echo the wildering plants of autumn.

I was really intrigued by the Kristen Dalton quote, “Be aware of what season you are in and give yourself the grace to be there”. In the world of hustle and bustle, planning and wouldshouldcoulds something simple like concentrating to the now, to the season you are in, is precious. Maybe I should have followed this idea, sticking to one season, as the mix of different seasons make this project a bit busy. I first thought to make another page, to which I might be more pleased with than to this, but then I decided it’s also important to share those pages that aren’t 100% what I have imagined them being. To me creating is also about the journey, not just the destination. I hope that by sharing something I’m not totally confident about may also help some of you. It’s not like every single project I make turns perfect, it’s trial and error. But those errors are very important, too. They take me to another level, give me experience and make me analyze what I’ve done and what I can do better.

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a pleasant change of the seasons!
